It's Official, Floridians Love Libraries:
On a single day, over a quarter of a million people used Florida's Libraries

The Florida Library Association's Public Relations Committee is pleased to present the results of Florida Library Snapshot Day 2011. On January 25, 2011, libraries of all types across the State of Florida collected statistics, pictures, and stories from users to show what was happening in these libraries on that day.

We couldn't be happier with the results. Look at the diversity in these pictures and stories. From Pensacola to Miami, librarians everywhere told their communities' stories. We heard from small town cooperatives, big city libraries, community colleges, universities, elementary school media centers, and everything in between. It is a powerful snapshot of a fascinating state.

In these challenging economic times, Floridians depend on libraries more than ever before. Public and private libraries across the State of Florida and our nation have faced budget hardships.

Libraries need economic and political support so they can continue to provide patrons, students, and clients with the quality resources and services shown in these pictures! These Florida Library Snapshot Day statistics, pictures, and stories showcase the positive impact that they have on their local communities.

On a single day in Florida...

• 253,268 Floridians visited their library and borrowed 332,732 books, DVDs and magazines.
• 61,664 Floridians used a library computer and 10,090 learned computer skills.
• 44,139 people asked questions at the Information Desk.
• 16,755 children, teens and adults attended programs at 1,290 library programs statewide.

• Since I am retired and live on a fixed income I read more than before. The library always has local events/activities in the area. Also, the library provides computers for the people of Carrabelle to use for free. Barb, Carrabelle
