About Us
Library Snapshot Days allow participants to create a meaningful and effective library advocacy tool by sharing statistics with mayors, council members, commissioners, newspapers, Friends of the Library groups, school administrators, and others. Simple to implement, library staff gather statistics, stories, photographs and other items that accurately portray 'a day in the life' of their library; a complete record of how libraries touch lives every day with their vital services. Compiling the results of various libraries allows the Florida Library Association, in conjunction with the Florida Division of Library and Information services, to participate in the nationwide Library Snapshot advocacy efforts of the American Library Association.
Originally started in New Jersey as a result of the joint efforts of the New Jersey Library Association and the New Jersey State Library, Snapshot Day was approved as a project for the FLA Public Relations Committee in April 2010. Florida Library Snapshot Day on November 2, 2011 will allow all libraries across the state of Florida to illustrate the positive effect they have on their communities.
