Library Snapshot Day

How To Participate In Snapshot Day

It's easy to prepare for Florida Library Snapshot Day!
Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Spread the word!

Talk to your supervisor and get approval for participating in Snapshot Day. Then spread the word to your colleagues and co-workers about participating in Snapshot Day!

Step 2: Let FLA and local media know that you are participating.

Registration is simple - complete our online registration form. Consider sending a press release to the local newspaper or news outlets. Here is a template (doc) for creating a local press release.

Step 3: Ask for Help!

Recruit volunteers! Any staff, students, and faculty members can pass out customer comment forms, take photographs, and collect statistics on Snapshot Day. Talk with your Friends of the Library, the Library Board, or the Library Foundation members about helping out during the event. If you have questions contact the FLA Public Relations Committee at snapshotfla@gmail.com and we'll be glad to help!

Step 4: Download and make copies of the forms you will need!

In October, download the Customer Comment Form (doc), Data Collection Worksheet (doc), Data Collection Tally Form (.xls), Photograph Permission Form (pdf), and the Photo Submission Tutorial (pdf).

Step 5: Celebrate Library Snapshot Day on November 2, 2011

If your library is closed on November 2nd, please pick another day in October or during the week of November (1-4).

Step 6: Submit your data and photos:

  • Review your patron comments and select the 5 best comments. The limit is 5, but you have the option of submitting fewer.
  • If you are adding together statistics from multiple service desks, library branches, or campuses please use the Data Collection Tally Form (Excel) and add together all the statistics you collect on the Data Collection worksheets (doc).
  • Please submit your library branch or systems statistics and patron comments before Wednesday, November 16, 2011
  • Read the Flickr submission tutorial again and submit your photographs by logging into Flickr.

Step 7: Show off your library's results!

Read the template directions (pdf) before downloading the results templates. Select one of our Library Results Templates: Word (2003), PowerPoint (2003), PowerPoint (2007 & 2010), and Publisher (2007). Advocate and educate by posting your library’s results document around the library, city hall, county offices, school, college, or university! Floridians, educators, policy makers, and patrons want to know!
