Kids Can Code and You Can Too!

How do you start a coding program for children without a background in computer science? This presentation outlines our journey of bringing a brand new program to the library from detailing our failures to overcoming obstacles that led to our strategy of teaching kids how to code.

Hyunjin Han, Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach

Hyunjin (Jin) Han is a Children’s Librarian at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. She earned her MLIS from Emporia State University in 2016. She worked at Salt Lake City Public Library as an Associate Librarian from 2015 to 2016. She has two undergraduate degree: A.A.S in Early Childhood Education, 2013 and B.A in International Business, 2006. She believes in power of children’s literature and early learning. She reads both in Korean and English. In her spare time, she loves reading YA novels.

Kristine Techavanich, Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach

Kristine Techavanich is a Children’s Librarian at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. She obtained her BA in Philosophy and Humanities from the University of Central Florida and her MLIS from the University of South Florida.
