Session Description 

Join us for a panel presentation and hear from four different institutions about how the Sunshine State Digital Network is fostering transformational partnerships around digital collections in Florida. We are working to shift how digital collaborations have worked in the past and forge new ways of creating community partnerships that last and benefit all parties involved. 

Presenters 

Xiying Mi, University of South Florida
Metadata Librarian at the University of South Florida Libraries, is a member of the Collections and Discovery Department. Her work focuses on providing access to the Libraries' digital collections. Her research interests include digital libraries, metadata management and reuse, and linked data.

Margarita Mirabal, Miami-Dade Public Library System
Margarita Mirabal is the Digitization Manager at Miami-Dade Public Library System. She oversees the digitization unit and has many years of digital collections experience at both academic and public libraries. She was responsible for the implementation of MDPLS digital collections through the management of a large LSTA grant.

Jamie Rogers, Florida International University
As Assistant Director of Digital Collections, she manages the digital production, data management strategies, and preservation for internally and externally funded digital initiatives in collaboration with the FIU community, as well as local partners, including municipalities, cultural institutions, government agencies, and scientific organizations. She has curated and managed over 100 digitized special collections and institutional repository collections, which are accessed an average of 5 million times per year.

Kaleena Rivera, Florida Gulf Coast University
Kaleena Rivera is the Digital Initiatives Librarian at Florida Gulf Coast University Library under Archives, Special Collections, & Digital Initiatives. Her work focuses primarily on overseeing digitization and metadata for special collections, as well as harvesting FGCU-related scholarship for inclusion in the institutional repository and managing the digital library. She received her MSI from Florida State University in 2017. 

Keila Zayas Ruiz, Sunshine State Digital Network
Keila Zayas Ruiz is the Sunshine State Digital Network Coordinator, since 2017 she has been working with institutions from around the state of Florida to help them share their digital cultural heritage collections to the Digital Public Library of America. She manages the day-to-day operations of the network, conducts outreach, and training related to digital collections, copyright, and metadata creation. She holds a MLIS from the Florida State University.

Krystal Thomas, Florida State University
Krystal Thomas is the Digital Archivist at Florida State University Libraries under Special Collections & Archives. Her work is a mix of digital project creation and management, supervision of the Digital Library Center, and acting as a consultant for digital archiving projects on campus. Krystal received her MSI from the University of Michigan in 2009.
